Coconut oil is extracted from the kernel of mature nuts from the coconut tree, which is often referred to as the “Tree of Life”.
Perhaps the world’s oldest oil, people from tropical regions have used coconut oil for generations and it is now gaining new found interest in western medicine. In addition to its excellent antioxidant profile, it is said to have antimicrobial properties and help with immune system enhancement. It is an effective moisturiser and an excellent massage oil for all skin types. Its creamy, soft texture moisturises skin and aids in the prevention and treatment of even dry and flaky skin.
Interestingly, lauric acid – which is found in breast milk – is the predominant fatty acid found in coconut oil, and baby foods all over the world contain lauric acid from coconut oil as a prominent ingredient.
